The study of Biomedical Science focuses on a broad and integrated foundational overview of human and animal health through the study of function, structure, and paraclinical sciences.

What's Unique?

The Honours B.Sc. major in Bio-Medical Science (BIOM) is offered jointly by the Departments of Biomedical Sciences and Human Health and Nutritional Sciences. It will provide you with a broad and basic grounding in mammalian and human biology, and includes courses in anatomy, physiology, nutrition, immunology, embryology, pharmacology, histology and epidemiology.

Program Details 

In your first year, begin with an understanding in the foundation of chemistry, biology, calculus and physics for life sciences. In your 3rd or 4th year, you dive deeper into physiology systems and medical sciences. You will also have the opportunities to plan, conduct and analyze your own research projects supported by faculty with support from some of the facilities on campus, including the Human Anatomy Lab, Health and Performance Centre and Advanced Analysis Centre

Admission Requirements


~86 - 90%* average 

  • 12U English 
  • Advanced Functions
  • 2 courses from12U: Biology, Chemistry, Physics
  • 2 additional 12U or M courses

All three sciences are recommended

*Please note that admission cut-offs stated above is an approximate based on previous years applicant pool. This cut-off range will vary from year-to-year and can be higher or lower based on the applicant pool. Meeting the minimum average does not guarantee an offer of admission. Admissions averages are calculated using the six required courses. 

 


You can expect to learn how to:


  • Demonstrate knowledge of health and disease through the study of molecules, cells and whole organisms.
  • Understand the influence of evidence-based medicine, ethics, biases, medical technologies and the environment on health.
  • Identify, review and advance our understanding of scientific endeavour through literature searches, research or other independent study in health science disciplines.
  • Critically analyze biomedical research and clinical practice literature and develop an appreciation for the limits of scientific knowledge.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the application of research and medical technologies to disease prevention and treatment in every-day life.
